Extreme Cognitive Dissonance: A 2020 Ball of Confusion

As a nation we are experiencing a dizzying chaos which appears to be teetering on societal collapse, which has led to a seeming national paralyzing anxiety, that can also be described as an extreme case of cognitive dissonance.

Whatever it is called, most of us know that something is not right. That may explain why polls show 75% of people that live in the United States believe that this country is headed in the wrong direction.

In the conflictive 1960s, the Temptations had a hit song that named this same phenomenon: “Ball of Confusion.” Extreme cognitive dissonance or ball of confusion, in effect, in 2020, same thing.

And this isn’t simply about the Orange Madman. There is no doubt or confusion regarding what he stands for, thus, where does the confusion lie? Actually, that is where it lies, in the LIES. Since 2017, he has told more than 20,000 lies after he swore on the Bible upon assuming the keys to the White House. The days when it aptly described his primary character are long gone; like a disease, it has now metastasized and afflicted virtually everyone in his administration. All of them are charged with maintaining the fictional world he has created inside of his own head and it has also afflicted his seemingly mindless supporters.

Truthfully, the entire existence of this country was founded upon a series of lies, also known as our “National Myths,” including Providence, Manifest Destiny, American Exceptionalism and the American Dream. All allude to the notion that the idea of “America” is God-driven and God-sanctioned. Ironically, these ideas are manifested in statues, many of which are now being toppled. All of these beliefs mask what is not taught in schools; the genocide, land theft and slavery that made possible the existence of not only this country, but virtually all the modern nation-states on this continent.

But the current White House occupant has taken lying not only to stratospheric levels, but has also taken to affirming those foundational myths. His narrative is racial in nature and an act of desperation because the nation’s changing demographics belie his racial Nirvana. That dream is not even appealing to many conservatives anymore. And so what we are actually witnessing nowadays is a naked struggle to impose a legalized racial apartheid upon this country.

Enter the Electoral College. Yes, that is what enabled 45 to be installed as president, even though he lost by some three million votes. He may yet lose by five million votes in 2020 and still be able to retain the office via the Electoral College, or by simply challenging the legitimacy of the election due to “mail-in ballot fraud.”

Perhaps that is what is meant by the “genius of the founding fathers”; creating a system in which it is virtually impossible to throw out an incompetent president, one who is clearly derelict in his duties.

Additionally, he is not stoking culture wars as much as he is manifesting full-blown white supremacy and misogyny, etc. But especially when dealing with the C-19 pandemic, he is also pedaling anti-science and willful ignorance. For this failed businessman, with a long trail of corruption and bankruptcies, the economy trumps everything. Apparently, his message is that we are going to shop our way out of the pandemic. After 9/11, that too was Baby W’s message. And then came the end of privacy and our personal freedoms. And an invasion and then a second one, one without any cause whatsoever, though seems like most of the country believed that massive lie, at least the pols did.

Perhaps that’s where the Orangeman learned that in this country, there seems to be no repercussions, even when countries are illegally invaded, and hundreds of thousands killed.

But fast forward to today. The vast majority are not believing in what he is pedaling, and yet, all those closest to him have assimilated his lies and thus, lying has become normalized and they are all now afraid to contradict their “dear leader.” His die-hard adherents exhibit lemming behavior, but the others, the ones that thought they were simply getting an anti-establishment type, they did not know that Kool Aid was part of the package. And thus, they are now the ones abandoning him in droves.

Despite that, he continues with his rallies, endangering his own supporters, but really, endangering everyone as people are not homebound. People move and they travel, and so too the virus, which needs no license or passport. The virus of hate and racism is not spreading in the same manner as C-19, but both are equally dangerous.

Cognitive dissonance? A ball of confusion? Apparently, just among his own most ardent supporters.

Como nación, estamos experimentando un caos vertiginoso que parece tambalearse por el colapso social, lo que ha llevado a una aparente ansiedad paralizadora nacional, que también puede describirse como un caso extremo de disonancia cognitiva.

Como se llame, la mayoría de nosotros sabemos que algo no está bien. Eso puede explicar por qué las encuestas muestran que el 75% de las personas que viven en los Estados Unidos creen que este país se dirige en la dirección equivocada.

En la conflictiva década de 1960, The Temptations tenía una canción exitosa que nombraba este mismo fenómeno: "Ball of Confusion". Disonancia cognitiva extrema o bola de confusión, en efecto, en 2020, la misma cosa.

Y esto no se trata simplemente del Orange Madman – quizque presidente de este país. No hay duda o confusión con respecto a lo que él representa, por lo tanto, ¿dónde radica la confusión? En realidad, ahí es donde se encuentra, en las MENTIRAS. Desde 2017, ha dicho más de 20,000 mentiras después de haber jurado la Biblia al asumir las llaves de la Casa Blanca. Los días en que describía acertadamente su personaje principal han pasado hace mucho tiempo; Como una enfermedad, ahora ha hecho metástasis y ha afectado a casi todos en su administración. Todos ellos están encargados de mantener el mundo ficticio que ha creado dentro de su propia cabeza y también ha afectado a sus seguidores aparentemente sin sentido.

A decir verdad, toda la existencia de este país se fundó sobre una serie de mentiras, también conocidas como nuestros "Mitos Nacionales", que incluyen la Providencia, el Destino Manifiesto, el Excepcionalismo Americano y el Sueño Americano. Todos aluden a la idea de que la idea de "América" está impulsada y sancionada por Dios. Irónicamente, estas ideas se manifiestan en estatuas, muchas de las cuales ahora están siendo derrocadas. Todas estas creencias enmascaran lo que no se enseña en las escuelas; el genocidio, el robo de tierras y la esclavitud que hicieron posible la existencia no solo de este país, sino prácticamente de todos los estados nacionales modernos en este continente.

Pero el actual ocupante de la Casa Blanca ha tomado la mentira no solo a niveles estratosféricos, sino que también ha tomado en cuenta esos mitos fundamentales. Su narrativa es netamente racial y un acto de desesperación porque la demografía cambiante de la nación cree en su Nirvana racial. Ese sueño ya ni siquiera es atractivo para muchos conservadores. Entonces, lo que realmente estamos presenciando hoy en día es una lucha desnuda para imponer un apartheid racial legalizado en este país.

Ingrese al Colegio Electoral. Sí, eso es lo que permitió que el fracasado comerciante se instalara como presidente, a pesar de que perdió por unos tres millones de votos. Es posible que aún pierda por cinco millones de votos en 2020 y aún pueda retener el cargo a través del Colegio Electoral, o simplemente desafiando la legitimidad de las elecciones debido al "fraude en las boletas por correo".

Quizás eso es lo que se entiende por "genio de los padres fundadores"; creando un sistema en el que es prácticamente imposible expulsar a un presidente incompetente, uno que está claramente abandonado en sus deberes.

Además, no está avivando las guerras culturales tanto como está manifestando la supremacía blanca y su misoginia, etc. Pero especialmente cuando se trata de la pandemia del C-19, también está pedaleando contra la ciencia y la ignorancia voluntaria. Para este hombre de negocios fallido, con un largo camino de corrupción y quiebras, la economía triunfa sobre todo. Aparentemente, su mensaje es que vamos a salir de la pandemia. Después del 11 de septiembre de 2001, ese también fue el mensaje del Baby W. Bush. Y luego llegó el fin de la privacidad y nuestras libertades personales. Y una invasión y luego una segunda, sin ninguna causa, aunque parece que la mayoría del país creían esas mentiras masivas, al menos los políticos lo hicieron.

Quizás allí es donde el Orangeman aprendió que en este país, parece no haber repercusiones, incluso cuando los países son invadidos ilegalmente y cientos de miles de muertos.

Pero avance rápido hasta hoy. La gran mayoría no cree en lo que está pedaleando y, sin embargo, todos los más cercanos a él han asimilado sus mentiras y, por lo tanto, la mentira se ha normalizado y ahora todos tienen miedo de contradecir a su "querido líder". Sus partidarios acérrimos exhiben un comportamiento lemming, pero los demás, los que pensaban que simplemente estaban obteniendo un tipo anti-establecimiento, no sabían que Kool Aid (para suicidarse) era parte del compromiso. Y así, ahora ellos son los que lo abandonan en masa.

A pesar de eso, continúa con sus manifestaciones, poniendo en peligro a sus propios partidarios, pero realmente, poniendo en peligro a todos ya que las personas no están confinadas en sus hogares. Las personas se mueven y viajan, y también el virus, que no necesita licencia ni pasaporte. El virus del odio y el racismo no se está propagando de la misma manera que el C-19, pero ambos son igualmente peligrosos.

¿Disonancia cognitiva? ¿Una bola de confusión? Aparentemente, solo entre sus partidarios más ardientes.
