Homeland Security Starts at the Press Conference

Give the Bimbo a break. She no longer is in a position to use her rifle and gravel pit to promote her image of being a “Bad Ass Babe.” So when someone shows up atone of her press conferences who might make her look bad, having her Gestapo Guards rough him up a little is perfectly acceptable procedure — even when he is a U.S. senator who has clearly identified who he is. Protect the image — not protect proper procedure.

There was a time when competence and character were major factors in selecting a Cabinet secretary. If one had a screw up that could reflect badly on the president, their letter of resignation would have been on the president’s desk before he heard what happened. But when it’s more important to be a sycophant whose main qualification is their ability to kiss the president’s ass, you don’t get help with the high level of character that a Cabinet secretary needs to have.

Of course, back then, if that screwup wasn’t something very illegal, an honorable behavior resignation was usually followed by a job that led to a successful career. Today that screwup could lead to a quick deportation and a long term residence on a Caribbean island — if the president decides that screwup is making him look bad instead fo helping him. It’s like playing Russian roulette. Oh, for the good ole gravel pit years.
