In the past Kings and Queens justified their right to rule by Divine Right. This axiom was an accepted fact by the masses. Divine Right meant the king got his right to rule from god. Since God gave them the right to rule they were considered a god. Hence whatever the king said was taken as the word of God. Therefore, to question the king was blasphemous. Death. imprisonment or banishment to the wilderness was the penalty for blasphemy.
A hyperbolic example of divine right would be the fable of the Emperor’s New Clothes. The emperor wore no clothes but told his subjects he was wearing new clothes. No one questioned the emperor since he was considered a God. Whatever God said was an undeniable fact. Finally the emperor was in a huge crowd in public. A little boy said, “Look! The emperor doesn’t have any clothes on!” The people gasped and awoke to the fact the emperor was really naked, in spite of of what the god king told them.
Let’s look at today. Is Trump a king? Does Divine Right apply to Trump? Did God give Trump the right to rule? When Trump speaks is this God talking? ls it blasphemous to question Trump? What penalty should be applied to people who question Trump?
Allegedly the U.S. overthrew the monarchy in the American Revolution. No more monarchy or divine right. Democracy was established with the constitution, public elections and rule by the people.
The new government provided three branches of government, the executive. judicial and legislative.
The purpose of this type of government was established so no one branch had too much power like a king.
With the above knowledge let’s give Trump a litmus test. Is Trump a king? Let’s see. Trump violates the Constitution. He ignores laws. He defies the other branches of government. He defies the judiciary by not complying with their rulings. He takes away vested authority provided by the Constitution from Congress. He punishes, prosecutes, sues anyone who disagrees with him. He knows more than anyone, even experts. He is a habitual liar and expects everyone to believe him. He cheats to win at golf, elections and all endeavors. He will always maintain he won even when he loses. He is never wrong.
By these standards, yes Trump is a king! This is why no kings days came to fruition.
