The bombings of Iran by Israel and the United States were illegal according to international law. Though our political class and mainline reporters tout ‘preemptive war,’ it doesn’t apply here.
According to the UN Charter, there are two conditions for one country to use force against another: a) a United Nations Security Council resolution or b) preemption, meaning one country is under imminent attack (e.g. the bombers are in their airspace and on the way).
What Israel and the US, in fact, argued was “preventive war,’” what the Nazis argued at Nuremberg: they had to attack Poland or Poland would in time attack them. The Germans lost that argument and were sent to the gallows.
